Getting Him Off Your Back

We have all seen it, or, it has happened to us before. The boyfriend who calls over and over, apparently not getting enough. It has bled into just about every facet of our lives, and in some cases, taken the enjoyment out of it all-together. The clingy boyfriend who just can't stop talking to his girlfriend, lingering at her place, without giving her adequate time to breathe. It can almost make the woman feel as if she is living in a prison, one that's suffocating her with text messages and e-mails. He just doesn't get the message. You like him, but you really would like some time for you to think, or enjoy something that he's not affiliated with. It's something that has been happening for quite a long time, and it will continue to happen, but it does not have to happen to you.

When it comes to keeping a boyfriend from being clingy, chances are, he's probably not the most stable person. Before you do anything, you should probably understand why he's clingy. After that's done, there needs to be a solution, because things just cannot keep going on the way that they are. What a woman should do here is to set some kind of ground rules. Yes, it means that a girlfriend has to be a bit confrontational about it, without being combative, or sound like they are overtly annoyed. Even if you are annoyed, you shouldn't sound like you do not enjoy him being around, since you want to keep him around. If it has come to a point where it's too much to overcome, that's a totally different conversation.

In a few words, you should tell him that you need some time to spend with the rest of your friends. It should not be something that he should oppose, as he probably came along after your friends, and they are going to be there if he ever were to exit your life. Even though it does sound a little harsh, it is a conversation that needs to be had if the relationship is going to last. In fact, it's something that can save a relationship. Consider the relationship where a couple spends a lot of time together during a short period, chances are, they will burn themselves out eventually. And since you care about your boyfriend so much, this is exactly what you do not want to happen. Bring this up to him, and he will definitely understand. Since he's the clingy one, he'll even dread the thought of the relationship ending.

The clingy boyfriend is an annoying boyfriend, indeed. For any girlfriend who may be going through the problem, it's very important that she addresses the issue before it really gets out of hand. If left untreated, you're basically inviting a boyfriend to be integrated into every part of your life. And when that happens, the relationship will be way too entangled to separate, no matter how hard you want it.
